So. What's mystical knotty woo woo and why on earth am I peddling it? I imagine most people think of "woo woo" as something mystical and esoteric. "Woo woo" is perhaps some secret clandestine organization that sells makeup, leggings, or essential oils along with some supernatural glitz; right? For the record, that's not quite what I'm doing.
Mystical woo woo certainly can and does involve esoteric, mystical, supernatural, divining spooky-spooky, but for me it also involves the stories we tell, the beings we fear and revere, and all that jazz that resides in minds and hearts. It's the shit we justify to ourselves in stories, popular media, and politics [among others] flushing and swirling around in the public loo. It is also our shadow places underneath the facade of wanting to fit in.
We just grow up with all this schtuff. Too much of the time, it goes unquestioned. Often this everyday who-haw is considered divinely sanctioned, or worse in some ways, the natural law of the planet. And, if we're lucky enough to question it, it's like an ass gasket [e.g. toilet stool cover] stuck in our underwear in the middle of Walmart. It's taboo, embarrassing, and well, can be the butt of political discourse and societal joking. If one is lucky enough, it could start a Satanic panic. These stories sort of hang around stuck in our knickers giving us all comfort until something truly more wonderful comes in and acts like a wildfire in a forest or at least a better ass gasket - er - covering. We like feeling secure in our stories and understandings. It keeps the monsters in liminal spaces. And no, I'm not anti-intellectual. I'm a total smart ass even if I sound cynical.
All the above is why, to me anyway, "woo woo" is both mystical and knotty. It's hard to know origins and it's awfully knotty and tangled all over the place. We are a creative species among creative species. We make stuff up...In the beginning there was.....
Since this involves stories that are told and the beings that are both loved and feared, I like to deal with the whole megillah in the public swirl and swoosh swoosh. Yeah, like you said succinctly - story telling. I peddle in arting stories, story telling, and sounds and sensory musings - you know, mystical knotty woo woo. The entire website is about a journey into a story. Good stories teach us to be reborn, to cycle with the flow, and let go lest the undertow takes us down. And it's on my bucket list to start a panic. Or, if we must be fun and above board in all the bits and bobs of life, I create and decorate ass gaskets. Did I mention I've got you covered?
Please take a seat.
